The Annual March honoring Dr. Martin L. King will be Monday, January 16th 2012 with a motorcade
from Joe M. Gillmore Elementary School at starting at 9:45 a.m. and end at St. Union Baptist Church. The march will start at 3:30 p.m. from Jackson Middle School and end at Jackson City Hall for the ceremony.
White Smith Memorial Library will be having Story Time at 10:00 a.m., every Wednesday, for children ages 3 years and 4 years old.
The Regional Child Advocacy Center, Inc. is hosting its 6th annual “Honor Thy Children” Dinner and Auction fund-raiser, Feb. 4, 2012 at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, in Jackson, AL. This fundraiser supports the agency’s two child focused programs, “Almost Home” and “Regional Child Advocacy Center”. The event begins at 5:30 pm with a Silent Auction, Dinner at 6:30 pm and the Live Auction begins at 7:30 pm. Individual tickets for the fundraiser are $30 and can be purchased by calling Mary or Heidi at 251-275-2804 (CAC).
Dixie League sign ups will be Feb. 8th, 10th, 15th and 17th, from 4:30 till 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson Dixie League Field. The program is for 13 and 14 years old and sign-up fee is $75 per player. Tryouts and draft day will be Saturday, March 26th, at 10 PM. Contact Will Blount at 251-744-1956.

Softball Signups The Jackson Girls Softball Association is continuing sign-ups for the 2012 Spring League on Feb.2nd , from 6 -8 pm, at the New Era Softball Complex. The cost is $65 for girls, ages 7-12. There will be a late sign-up on Feb. 4th from 9-11am. The cost on this day will be $80. All new players must bring a copy of their birth certificate.
Pine City Polka Dot Parade is Friday, Feb. 17th at 5:00 p.m. It is running from Gillmore School to City Hall. The semi-formal and draw down will be at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park on that following Saturday at 8 p.m. in the evening. For more information contact Lindsey Woodyard at 769-6120.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month – we are asking that businesses show their concern for this problem by displaying a blue ribbon on the front of your business. Blue ribbons are available for pick-up at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce Office and are available on first come basis. PALS Clean-Up- “Spring Clean-Up”is held every third or fourth Saturday in April. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 21st. The anti-litter campaign will take place the week of April 21st –April 28th . Children ages 9-11 participate in a poster and essay contest. Cash prizes are awarded. The Spring Clean-Up provides a way for community members to become involved in the city of Jackson and gain more personal pride. SWAIA Supports Upcoming Jackson Sonic Classic Auto Cruise-In
The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association will support the upcoming Jackson Sonic Sponsored Classic Auto Cruise-In on Saturday, April 23, 2011, 2:00PM to 5:00PM, at the North College Ave. Facility. A free meal and drink will be provided to each participate. This event is the beginning of a monthly cruise-in alternating with the Thomasville facility on the 2nd Saturday.
This special promotion is being held as a prelude to the upcoming SWAIA sponsored Memorial Day Week-End Classic Auto/Bike Show and Swap Meet, North Jackson Park (Fair Ground Area) corner of Stanley Dr. and US Hwy 43 N. on Friday, May 25, 2012, 12 Noon to 8:00 PM and Saturday, May 26, 2012, 8:00AM to 4:00PM. Forestry Awareness Week is April 25th – April 27th in Clarke County. Planned activities include Forest Products, Forest Management, Soils, Conservation and Wildlife, Tree Identification, and Forest History are all topics covered during a four-day program held in the outdoors.

The Clarke County Junior Miss competition is held on April 30th, at 7 p.m. at the Thomasville Civic Center. Contestants from across the county vie for the prestigious title and for the opportunity to travel to Montgomery to represent the county at the state pageant.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser and is held on varying weekends during the month of May. “Characters for a Cure” is the theme for the Jackson Relay for Life fund-raiser on Saturday, May 8 at the Cecil McMullen Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday. The Jackson Relay for Life Committee has lined up an exciting day for family fun and entertainment for everyone. The goal is to celebrate the lives of those who are cancer survivors, remember those who lost the battle to cancer and fight back by raising funds and awareness about cancer and eventually find a cure for all types of cancer. The day will begin with the Cancer survivor’s Reception at 10 a.m. in the Jackson High School Cafeteria.

H.W. Pearce Memorial Park, formally known as Vanity Fair, opens for the season on Mother’s Day weekend and closes mid-August. The park offers activities for the entire family including swimming and tennis lessons. The swim team’s swim competition is held the first part of June. The park is an alcohol free environment. “Kid’s” Summer Exercise Classes
Health Actions will be offering exercise classes for children ages 8 – 11, during the month of June and July. Registration date will be June 2nd and the starting date will be June 7th. The University of Alabama Alumni Association and friends generally holds its Annual Meeting in the summer. A guest speaker is invited from UA. The money raised goes towards the scholarship fund.
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce’s Education committee hosts its annual Back to School Breakfast for local educators in August each year at the First United Methodist Church. The breakfast is sponsored by local businesses who donate promotional items such as pens, pencils, note pads, and calendars just to name a few. A light breakfast is provided for the educators to get their day started off in the right direction.

United Way Clarke County Kick Off event will be held on Thursday, September 17th from 5:30 PM till 8:00 PM, at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park in Jackson, formerly known as the Community House. This free event is open to the public and it will be an opportunity for community to meet the partner agencies funded by the Clarke County Campaign and to learn about their services. There will be many family friendly activities, door prizes, and free refreshments. Business and organizations are also welcome to come and bring their United Way donations the night of the event.
The Jackson Fire Department’s annual Town Inspection and Fire Prevention Parade will be held in October. Fire Prevention week is October 9th – 15th. This year’s Firemen’s Banquet, which recognizes the court, will be held on Tuesday, October 11th. This event will take place Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House. This year’s parade will be held on Wednesday, October 12th. The parade begins at 3:30 p.m. Floats are judged on theme, originality, and appearance. The top 3 winners are awarded cash prizes. The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce attracts thousands of people to the streets of Jackson for the annual Fall Festival.This year’s event will be Saturday, November 5th. Arts and crafts booths and food vendors line the streets of downtown from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. selling a variety of items perfect for holiday gifts. The Fall Festival is a family event offering entertainment for every age. The children can enjoy unlimited use of various games with the purchase of an armband. Outdoor enthusiast will be entertained by the Lumberjack Competition and the Bob Smith Memorial Antique Auto Show. VETERAN’S DAY PROGRAM will be on Friday, November 11, 2010, downtown at 11:00 a.m
Christmas Open House will be on Sunday, November 13th, from 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m., those participating are Floral Creations, Flowertown, Fig, The Framery and Spunky Monkeys in Leroy. Bloomers will have their Open House on Thursday, November 17th as some of the other merchants will also be open for your shopping. This event is held by local florists, gift and antique shops to showcase their holiday merchandise. Held during the afternoon each business serves refreshments and offers discounts on Christmas merchandise.
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony event will be on Thursday, November 17th, downtown at 5:30 p.m. Pictures with Santa will be available and light refreshments will be served. Local school choirs will be performing.
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Christmas Parade on Friday on December 9th at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate. The theme for this year will be “Make the Season Bright”. The four categories that are judged are clubs and non-profit organizations, businesses and industries, bands, and other marching groups. Cash prizes and trophies are awarded. The parade will begin this year on Mayton Drive, in front of Gillmore Elementary School and disbands downtown, at the City Hall and Chamber of Commerce.
