PALS Clean-Up- "Spring Clean-Up" is held every third or fourth Saturday in April. This year's event will be held on Saturday, April 17th. The anti-litter campaign will take place the week of April 17th –April 24th. Children ages 9-11 participate in a poster and essay contest. Cash prizes are awarded. The Spring Clean-Up provides a way for community members to become involved in the city of Jackson and gain more personal pride. Every year the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce holds a kick-off breakfast for all of the volunteers at 8:00 a.m on Saturday morning. For more information contact the Chamber office at 251-246-3251. Forestry Awareness Week - is April 19th-April 22nd in Clarke County. Planned activities include Forest Products, Forest Management, Soils, Conservation and Wildlife, Tree Identification, and Forest History are all topics covered during a four-day program held in the outdoors.

The Clarke County Junior Miss competition is held on May 1, at 7 p.m. at the Thomasville Civic Center. Contestants from across the county vie for the prestigious title and for the opportunity to travel to Montgomery to represent the county at the state pageant.
Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser and is held on varying weekends during the month of May. “Characters for a Cure” is the theme for the Jackson Relay for Life fund-raiser on Saturday, May 8 at the Cecil McMullen Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday. The Jackson Relay For Life Committee has lined up an exciting day for family fun and entertainment for everyone. The goal is to celebrate the lives of those who are cancer survivors, remember those who lost the battle to cancer and fight back by raising funds and awareness about cancer and eventually find a cure for all types of cancer. The day will begin with the Cancer survivor’s Reception at 10 a.m. in the Jackson High School Cafeteria.

H.W. Pearce Memorial Park, formally known as Vanity Fair, opens for the season on Mother’s Day weekend and closes mid-August. The park offers activities for the entire family including swimming and tennis lessons. The swim team’s swim competition is held the first part of June. The park is an alcohol free environment. The 2010 Annual “Walk for Life” for the Alpha Pregnancy Center will be held Saturday, May 15th, at 8:30 a.m. The walk site this year is in front of Grove Hill Baptist Church at 140 S. Church St. in Grove Hill.
The Alpha Pregnancy Center is an interdenominational, non-profit ministry dedicated to caring for women and their unborn children. The Center also provides an abstinence only Sex and Family education (S.A.F.E.) program in Clarke and Washington county schools for grades 5 through 12. The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce’s Education committee hosts its annual Back to School Breakfast for local educators in August each year at the First United Methodist Church. The breakfast is sponsored by local businesses who donate promotional items such as pens, pencils, note pads, and calendars just to name a few. A light breakfast is provided for the educators to get their day started off in the right direction.

United Way Clarke County Kick Off event will be held on Thursday, September 17th from 5:30 PM till 8:00 PM, at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park in Jackson, formerly known as the Community House. This free event is open to the public and it will be an opportunity for community to meet the partner agencies funded by the Clarke County Campaign and to learn about their services. There will be many family friendly activities, door prizes, and free refreshments. Business and organizations are also welcome to come and bring their United Way donations the night of the event.
The Jackson Fire Department’s annual Town Inspection and Fire Prevention Parade are held in October. This year’s Firemen’s Banquet, which recognizes the court, will be held on October 6th. This event will take place at the Downtown Fire Station. This year’s parade will be held on Wednesday, October7th. The parade begins at 3:30 p.m. Floats are judged on theme, originality, and appearance. The top 3 winners are awarded cash prizes. The band judged to be the best is also awarded a cash prize. The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce attracts thousands of people to the streets of Jackson for the annual Fall Festival. This year’s event will be Saturday, November 6th. Arts and crafts booths and food vendors line the streets of downtown from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. selling a variety of items perfect for holiday gifts. The Fall Festival is a family event offering entertainment for every age. The children can enjoy unlimited use of various games with the purchase of an armband. Outdoor enthusiast will be entertained by the Lumberjack Competition and the Bob Smith Memorial Antique Auto Show. The Jackson Rotary Club sponsors the Clarke-Washington County Fair. The event is held the first week of November at the fair grounds located behind Jackson Steakhouse-Hwy 43. The gates open at 6 p.m. nightly. Signature events include the Fair Queen Contest, Cheerleading Contest, and the International Miss Pageant. Men, women, boys and girls can enjoy the carnival rides, delicious food and games.
VETERAN'S DAY PROGRAM will be on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, downtown at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Probate Judge Charles Singleton from Washington County will be the speaker, Clint Harrell will play the taps and Gay DeWitt will carry the flag.
Christmas Open House will be on Sunday, November 15th. This event is held by local florists, gift and antique shops to showcase their holiday merchandise. Held during the afternoon each business serves refreshments and offers discounts on Christmas merchandise.
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony event will be on Friday on November 20th, downtown at 5:00 p.m. Pictures with Santa will be available and light refreshments will be served. Local school choirs will be performing.
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Christmas Parade Thursday, December 10th at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate. The theme for this year is “All I Want for Christmas is...” The four categories that are judged are clubs and non-profit organizations, businesses and industries, bands, and other marching groups. Cash prizes and trophies are awarded. The parade begins in downtown Jackson and disbands on Mayton Drive, in front of Gillmore Elementary School. First United Methodist Church Annual Step Sing is held every first Sunday of Advent. All community choirs are invited to participate. Hot cocoa is served to those attending the event held at 6 p.m.
First Baptist Church will present on December 5th 2009, its Children's Christmas Musical. On December 12th - Dinner Theater at 6:00 PM in the fellowship hall. Sandra Boykin Nelson and one of her pianist partners will present a concert that night after dinner. On December 13th - Adult Choir Christmas Musical.
Sweet Dreams At Coo's Cabin will be held on Thursday, December 17th at White Smith Memorial Library at 6:00 P.M. Christmas stories, music and a visit from Santa. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the presentation.
