Each year the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Pine City Ambassador Junior Leadership Program. The participants are selected through an in-depth interview process in which each student's knowledge of Jackson, communication skills and leadership skills are explored.
The eighteen high school seniors are representative of Jackson High School, Jackson Academy, Solid Rock Christian School and Leroy High School. The nine month program is designed to develop youth leadership skills that will enable the students to work and serve their community collaboratively.
"The objective of the program is to build awareness of the current challenges and opportunities that exist in our community. This year's group will meet in various locations and speakers from all over the state will facilitate the workshops," said Chamber Director, LaShaunda Holly.
There are a total of eight workshops and eight programs/events that are held during the term. Some of the workshop topics this year are the Leadership Enhancement I & II, Industry Day, Public Safety Day, City & County Government and Economic Development. The special events include the Opening Retreat, Annual Meeting, Fall Festival, Christmas Parade, Spring Clean-Up and Graduation.
